What we treat
Lower back pain
The most common reason people come to us. Most of it gets better with the right treatment, and you do not need to know which kind.
Your lower back carries most of your weight and does most of your bending, so it is the part that complains first. Pain there usually comes from a strained muscle, a stiff joint, or a disc pressing on a nerve.
When a disc presses on a nerve, the pain does not stay in your back. It travels down through the buttock and into the leg, sometimes as far as the foot. Your doctor may call that sciatica. It is the same problem, further along the wire.
Your doctor may have called it sciatica, or a slipped disc, if the pain runs down your leg.
What we do
What treatment involves
A rehabilitation doctor plans it before anything starts. Nothing is decided before somebody has looked at you.
A rehabilitation doctor examines you first and works out where the pain is actually coming from, because back pain and leg pain can have the same cause and different ones.
Treatment usually combines hands-on work, exercises you can keep doing at home, and — where the doctor decides it is right — one of the machines below.
You are not expected to push through pain. Tell your therapist the moment something hurts and they will change what they are doing.
How long will it take? It depends on what the doctor finds, and they will tell you at your first visit rather than guess before seeing you.
Equipment
What we may use
Equipment most clinics in Cebu do not have. Which of it applies to you is the doctor's decision, not something you need to work out.
Spinal decompression
A machine gently stretches your spine, a little at a time, to take pressure off a squeezed disc or nerve. This is the one for back pain that shoots down your leg.TECAR
Gently warms the tissue from the inside using radio energy. More blood reaches the area, so muscles and joints recover faster.
Come and be looked at.
Ring and describe it in your own words. We will tell you honestly whether we can help — and if we are not the right people, we will say so.
Using an HMO? See the providers we bill directly — bring your Letter of Authorisation and we will do the paperwork.

Also treated
Other things people come to us with
Recovery after a stroke
The work after a stroke is slow and it is worth doing. We treat patients on the wards at Chong Hua and carry on with them in the clinic.Frozen shoulder
A shoulder that has slowly stopped moving, often without any injury to blame it on. It is common, and it responds to treatment. After a knee replacement
The operation replaces the joint. The therapy afterwards is what decides how well you use it.
