What we treat
After a knee replacement
The operation replaces the joint. The therapy afterwards is what decides how well you use it.
A knee replacement removes the worn surfaces of the joint and puts in an artificial one. The new joint works, but the muscles around it have usually been weak for a long time before the surgery, and they do not recover on their own.
The first weeks matter more than any other part. Getting the knee bending and straightening early is what prevents stiffness that is much harder to undo later.
What we do
What treatment involves
A rehabilitation doctor plans it before anything starts. Nothing is decided before somebody has looked at you.
Your surgeon sets what the knee is allowed to do and when. We work inside that, and we will ring them if anything is unclear rather than guess.
Treatment is getting the bend and the straightening back, rebuilding the muscle that holds the knee steady, and getting you walking properly instead of protecting the leg.
Bring anything the surgeon gave you to your first visit — the operation notes and any instructions about weight-bearing.
How long will it take? It depends on what the doctor finds, and they will tell you at your first visit rather than guess before seeing you.
Equipment
The doctor decides what you need
We have equipment most clinics here do not, and which of it helps depends entirely on what the examination finds.
We have not put a list of machines on this page, because for after a knee replacement the honest answer is that it depends on what the doctor finds when they look at you. You do not have to know, and being told a machine before anybody has examined you is not useful.
Come and be looked at.
Ring and describe it in your own words. We will tell you honestly whether we can help — and if we are not the right people, we will say so.
Using an HMO? See the providers we bill directly — bring your Letter of Authorisation and we will do the paperwork.

Other things people come to us with
Lower back pain
The most common reason people come to us. Most of it gets better with the right treatment, and you do not need to know which kind.Recovery after a stroke
The work after a stroke is slow and it is worth doing. We treat patients on the wards at Chong Hua and carry on with them in the clinic.Frozen shoulder
A shoulder that has slowly stopped moving, often without any injury to blame it on. It is common, and it responds to treatment.
