What we treat

Frozen shoulder

A shoulder that has slowly stopped moving, often without any injury to blame it on. It is common, and it responds to treatment.

The shoulder sits in a capsule of soft tissue. In a frozen shoulder that capsule thickens and tightens, and the joint loses room to move. It usually comes on gradually over months, with no fall or injury to explain it.

It is more common after a period of not using the arm — after surgery, after an injury elsewhere, or during an illness — and more common in people with diabetes.

Your doctor may have called it adhesive capsulitis.

What we do

What treatment involves

A rehabilitation doctor plans it before anything starts. Nothing is decided before somebody has looked at you.

The doctor checks how far the shoulder moves and rules out the other things that cause shoulder pain, because they are treated differently.

Treatment works on getting the movement back gradually, with hands-on work and exercises, and on settling the pain enough that you can sleep.

Progress is measured, so you can see it working rather than having to take our word for it.

How long will it take? It depends on what the doctor finds, and they will tell you at your first visit rather than guess before seeing you.

Equipment

What we may use

Equipment most clinics in Cebu do not have. Which of it applies to you is the doctor's decision, not something you need to work out.

  • Shockwave

Strong sound waves aimed deep into a sore tendon. They break up old, hardened tissue and get the body repairing it again. We use it for heel pain, tennis elbow, and shoulder pain that hasn't improved with exercises.
  • TECAR

Gently warms the tissue from the inside using radio energy. More blood reaches the area, so muscles and joints recover faster.

Come and be looked at.

Ring and describe it in your own words. We will tell you honestly whether we can help — and if we are not the right people, we will say so.

Using an HMO? See the providers we bill directly — bring your Letter of Authorisation and we will do the paperwork.
